What is First Mile?

First mile is the first leg of the shipping journey — from the seller's warehouse or pickup point to the courier's origin hub. Reliable first-mile pickup keeps promised dispatch SLAs from slipping on day one.

The first mile covers scheduling the pickup, the rider collecting parcels against the manifest, and the shipment reaching the origin sorting hub. Missed or delayed pickups here cascade into late deliveries, so first-mile reliability is a key courier-selection factor for high-volume sellers.

For sellers shipping from multiple pincodes, matching each pickup location to the courier with the strongest first-mile presence in that area beats forcing everything onto one carrier.
