What Shopify Flow does
Shopify Flow is Shopify's own automation app: a trigger, some conditions and one or more actions, built without code. Order created, order paid and fulfilment events are the triggers that matter for shipping, and the actions you will use most are adding tags, holding or releasing fulfilment, sending an internal email or message, and adding a note to the order.
Flow works on the order record. It cannot pick a courier or print a label, which is where a shipping platform takes over. The division of labour is simple: Flow sorts and flags orders as they come in, RouteOneX ships them.
Workflows worth building first
Start with the three that save the most time for an Indian store.
- Tag high-risk COD: order created, payment is COD, order value above your limit or customer's first order, add tag "cod-verify" and hold fulfilment until a team member confirms.
- Flag address problems: shipping address missing a pincode or a phone number, add tag "fix-address" and notify the team.
- Escalate returns: fulfilment event shows a failed attempt or return, email the support inbox with the order and tracking link so NDR follow-up starts the same day.
Pairing Flow with RouteOneX courier rules
Tags set by Flow arrive with the order in RouteOneX, so the courier-selection rules there can act on them. Orders tagged for verification stay unshipped until released; everything else is allocated automatically to the best courier for its pincode and weight, labelled in bulk and tracked back into Shopify. The result is a pipeline where the only orders a human touches are the ones Flow flagged.
