How Indian pincodes are structured
Indian pincodes are six digits. The first digit is the region, the second the sub-region, the third the sorting district, and the last three the delivery post office. The first digit is also what couriers use to decide shipping zones, which is why a lookup is a useful first step before quoting a rate.
